And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
And you will see trouble in my dwelling place, even when God blesses Israel with prosperity: and there will never be an elderly man in your family line again.
God is telling Eli that his family will face hardship and his descendants will die young as punishment for allowing corruption in the temple.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy was spoken to Eli, the high priest at Shiloh, whose sons Hophni and Phinehas were corrupt priests who dishonored God's sacrifices and committed immoral acts. God was announcing judgment on Eli's priestly family line because Eli failed to stop his sons' wickedness. This curse would later be fulfilled when Eli's sons died in battle and the priesthood was eventually transferred to another family line.
